During a session the client will lie on a therapy table or bed, although can sit in a chair if necessary for comfort.
Clients can choose to wear light clothing.
An initial set of three treatments is recommended in order to establish whether the client is likely to respond to treatment. The moves are subtle and gentle, there is no hard or prolonged pressure.
Sessions will last generally around 45 minutes to one hour and are scheduled between five and seven days apart.
At the first session the Practitioner takes a case history and makes a treatment plan and will usually carry out the Bowen Procedures to balance the body.
The Practitioner leaves the room for around 2 minutes between moves to allow the body time to respond to the moves.
The treatment plan is updated at each session depending on the client’s response.
There is guidance provided on what to expect following a session which emphasises the importance of movement and, the drinking of water.
Sometimes clients can reactions to treatment can include tiredness, original symptoms, stiffness, headaches, flu like symptoms.
Clients will be asked not to have other forms of physical or energetic therapy whilst receiving Bowen and to leave a period of a week either side.
