What is Bowen

The Bowen Technique – called after Tom Bowen who developed it - is a gentle muscle and connective tissue therapy which stimulates the body to rebalance, promotes relaxation, healing, pain relief and recovery of energy.

The Bowen Technique involves the therapist carrying out a specific rolling movement, the Bowen “move”, using fingers or thumbs, to move over muscle, ligament, tendons, at specific locations in the body.  This move sends signals to the central nervous system and the body can then respond with its own healing mechanisms.

The moves are very gentle and do not involve hard or prolonged pressure. There are frequent breaks between moves to allow the client’s body time to respond.

The Bowen Technique is considered safe for people of all ages with few contra indications. As it is so gentle, people of all ages can be treated from babies to older people.
